About Us

Tom and Ash are an instrumental acoustic guitar duo with a wide and diverse repertoire, including traditional Spanish and classical arrangements, original compositions and contemporary popular pieces. They are equally at home playing at weddings and restaurants as they are playing festivals and noisy bars.

Since 2011, Tom and Ash have played hundreds of times across many venues around the UK, ranging from Goodwood House, West Dean College, Wickham Festival, the Arundel Festival,  Komedia in Brighton, Hillbark Hotel in Liverpool, as well as other venues in London, Littlehampton, Arundel, Bognor Regis, Petersfield, Worthing, Portsmouth, West Marden, Portslade, Eastbourne, Pagham, the Isle of Wight and almost every venue in Chichester.

Tom Janes

Tom has been playing guitar since he was twelve, starting off with rock and electric, and has since developed a broad interest in all styles of music. He is a graduate of the University of Chichester with a First Class degree in Music Composition, studying the traditional contrapuntal methods of Fux's Gradus Ad Parnassum. This Baroque style counterpoint and rock influence is evident in his music. Tom is also available for private or group guitar tuition.
Ashley Nicholls

Ashley is a grade 8 classical guitarist who graduated in 2012 from the University of Chichester with a 2/1 BA(hons) Music and a 1st class performance dissertation.

Ashley enjoys many styles of music and guitar playing, from classical and flamenco, through to rock, blues and jazz. In the 12 years that he has been playing guitar, Ashley's tastes for a wide repertoire of guitar music means he tries not to limit himself to one "style". Instead his goal is to try and incorporate the different techniques and genres he has learnt to help create the hybrid spanish-jazz-rock sound of 'Tom & Ash' ...without insulting the 'traditional' way of doing things.
